Not A Good Year For Morels
Well the morel mushroom hunting season is coming to a close. Probably a good thing because this year has not been a good one for hunting them. The always elusive morel mushroom won the battle this year; as very few were found this year compared to last year. Hopefully next year will show more success than this year did.
I had some friends that managed to go out this weekend and they said that they found a few but they were all dried up. So when did people find them when they weren’t dried up? I know that I found very few this year compared to previous years. When people did find them this year, they didn’t find them in large groups; it was just one here and one there, but nothing to write home and brag about.
I realize that when mushroom hunting was in the best time of the year in previous weeks, that no one probably wanted to tell anybody where they were finding them in fear of other hunters going to their hot spots and snagging them all before they got there, but now that the season has and/or is coming to an end, share your success with the rest of us. How many did you find? Where did you find them? Let’s see who can have bragging rights going into next year. I know that it isn’t me!!!
If you are still going out and finding mushrooms that are not dried up, more power to you. Hopefully next year your luck will be shared with us all.

found a good amount a couple days ago, not too bad of a year, they were very good
I found over 200 fine morels of several varieties between April 20 and May 1 in eastern Missouri. I can honestly say that this has been the first year I’ve had my fill of morels.
Lotsa pics on my blog….
